Students asked to inculcate discipline

He was speaking at the Scouts and Guides Day organised by the Kalpana Chawla Company at the Government Girls’ PU College here on Wednesday. He also released a flag on the occasion.

Girls, part of the Scouts and Guides should lead a disciplined life and should be a role model for other students, Victor added.

Scouts teacher E Srinivas Gowda in his inaugural speech said Lord Baden Powell started scouts in 1907 with 20 students through a experimental camp. In 1909, Scouts reached India and in fact it was Bangalore, the same year, a unit was opened.

The various scouting and guiding organisations spread across the length and breath of the country become one under the banner of The Bharath Scouts and Guides on November 7, 1950. Father of the Nation M K Gandhi and first Prime Minister of the country Jawaharlal Nehru have lent their services to the scouts and guides, he added.

“Today, we are celebration 61 years of that formation and flag day,” he added.
Government Girls’ PU College’s Vice Principal K V Narasimhaiah who presided over the function said that girl students right from their tender age should develop discipline and service mindedness.
