Student killed in mishap; farmers block Mys-B'lore road for 3 hours

A 13-year-old boy was fatally knocked down by a lorry

The mishap occurred at around five on Thursday evening and the unfortunate student has been identified as Shivaraju (13), eighth standard student of Raitha Shikshana Shale of Hanakere. He was the son of farmer Raju, resident of Sadholalu village.

It is said that Raju was returning home from school in a cycle and was crossing the road, when the tractor from Mandya hit him killing him on the spot. The cycle was damaged completely due to the collision and Raju is said to have struck to the wheels of the tractor.

The tractor after hitting the cycle and hit the electric pole nearby.

The villagers gathered at the spot immediately upon receiving information, staged a road block and condemned the negligence of the tractor driver.

They demanded suitable compensation to the family of the deceased and also sought clarification on the same. They claimed that the vehicles are always on a great speed even at the place where the quarters are situated and crossing the road has become a nightmare for the people. They demanded that the police commissioner take necessary steps to solve the problem.

Inconvenience

The traffic on the road is usually denser during the evenings and on Thursday vehicles were stranded on both the sides of the road due to the protest of the villagers, causing great inconvenience to the passengers travelling between Bangalore-Mysore.

Superintendent of police, assistant commissioner and Secretary of the school H P Mahesh visited the spot and tried to bring the situation under control. Only after assuring that suitable compensation would be provided to the kin of the deceased’s family, the crowd withdrew the stir. The traffic was disrupted for more than three hours and the route was cleared by 7 pm, according to sources.
