Varsity in predicament over professor's transfer

This has turned out be a major hurdle for Vice Chancellor S A Bari, who has been instructed to accommodate the professor Shivabasavaiah.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, Bari said Governor H R Bhardwaj has transferred Professor Shivabasavaiah to the university as per the Section 58 of Karnataka State University Act. The Governor’s order can’t be questioned under any circumstances. I am unable to implement the order as there is no vacancy in Zoology department.

“The Governor’s letter asked the university to accommodate Shivabasavaiah in the vacant post of the Zoology department, but there is no vacant post, besides there is no mention of his salary. We can’t give salary to him through internal resources. Hence, I have sought clarifications from the government,” the vice-chancellor said.

Bari said: “Even the syndicate members have expressed their displeasure over the Government’s unilateral decision in the syndicate meeting.”
