The dead have been identified as the driver Mohammed Ghousuddin (35), a resident of Byalahalli in Humnabad taluk and the conductor Somanna (45), a resident of Saraguru village in Nanjangud taluk.

The two victims were chatting at the gate of the depot when a bus hit them from behind. The speeding bus later dashed against another bus leaving the two crushed between the buses.

Panic grips depot
The accident created a panic situation in the depot. The drivers and conductors present at the depot staged a protest accusing the senior officers of harassment.

“The senior officers have failed in providing basic facilities. Even working over time has not helped in addressing the crisis,” they said.

They also urged that compensation be paid to families of the victims. The protest was withdrawn only after the senior officers promised to give Rs two lakh compensation to the families of each of the victims.

Various pro-Kannada organisations and members of the Popular Front of India participated in the protest.
