Police said the lorry driver was drunk when the accident took place at around 11 pm. The driver sustained injuries on his legs.

The lorry was headed towards K R Puram from Mekhri Circle. The driver was confused as to which way to take on the flyover when he approached a diversion and rammed into the wall. The lorry turned turtle, spilling the complete load of mud on the flyover. The route to K R Puram was totally blocked, while the way to the Bengaluru International Airport was partially closed.

A crane was pressed into service to lift the lorry and clear the mud. The police made way for the cars and bikes headed towards the airport, while buses, lorries and other heavy vehicles had to wait for more than an hour. All vehicles headed towards K R Puram were stranded on the flyover, police added.

The impact of the accident was felt on the road joining the flyover. Police had a tough time in ensuring smooth vehicular flow.

An eye witness, Satish, said: “I was driving just behind the lorry and was heading towards the airport. The driver lost control and the vehicle swerved before crashing into the wall.”
