He told reporters here on Wednesday that the Union government has approved the proposal to establish a hydel power project of 274 MW capacity near Shivanasamudra. TN, apprehending that the project will reduce its share of Cauvery water, has filed an objection with the Centre. He alleged that TN has been attempting to implement power projects in Hogenakkal, Mekedatu and Rashi Manna along Cauvery basin, without obtaining permission from the Centre and discussing the issue with the State. He ruled out the possibility of releasing additional water to Tamil Nadu from KRS reservoir this year. The surplus water is being released from KRS as catchment areas have received sufficient rains this year, he said.
