'Encroachments should be cleared for road widening'

Seeks cooperation from shop owners

Speaking at a meeting convened to discuss the issue, the DC said that it had been ordered to widen the road by 6 meters from the centre of the existing road and sought cooperation from the shop owners to carry out the task.

He suggested them to voluntarily clear the encroachments.

Ensures justice
Responding to the suggestion, shop owners, who were present in the meeting said that they would contemplate future course of action only after the encroachments on every other road were cleared. They expressed anguish that a few will lose houses and shops if the road is widened by six meters from the centre of the present road. The DC assured to ensure justice for the people who will be affected, in all the possible ways.

Legislator N H Shivashankara Reddy said that it would be possible to divert the National Highway that would pass through the town, if the shop owners volunteer to clear the encroachment.

Tahsildar Dr Sudha, Town Municipal Council chief officer Khaju Moinuddeen, councillors and owners of shops and commercial establishments were present in the meeting.
