Stray cattle worries motorists

Such wandering animals will be shifted to cattle pound, says CMC

The menace is so rampant that sometimes motorists will have to get down from their vehicles to shove the animals squatting or standing right in the middle of the roads.

Cattle freely move on prominent roads at Mahadevapete, College road, Bus stand, Mangaladevi Nagara and SAI stadium road.

Owing to the presence of a large number of stray cattle on the streets, one has to drive vehicle with extra care, in some parts of the city. A little distraction, may end up hitting a cow or a buffalo.

With the dumping of the vegetable waste on the road by the traders in Market area, the cattle menace is on rise. If they are dumped on the dustbin, then the cow pull it outside the dustbin and make the area a mess, says the locals.

The traffic too is blocked when cattle come in big numbers looking for fodder.

With the increase in tourists, the number of vehicles are also on rise, creating problems to the movement of vehicles. As the number of meat shops are on rise, the stray dog menace has also increased. The meat pieces which is thrown beside the road by the mutton shop owners, results in increase in stray dogs. Many a time, these stray dogs attack the padestrians and two wheelers.

The stray dogs and cattle have become cause of accidents in the city.

CMC speaks

Following complaints from the public, particularly the road-users, CMC Commissioner Shashikumar has ordered the impounding of cattle on the road.

The owners will have to get their cattle released from cattle pound by paying fine within seven days. If the owners fail to turn up, then the cattle will be auctioned.  In the interest of the public, the domestic animals should not be let out to the streets, said the Commissioner. As the use of plastic bags are banned in the CMC limits, those shop keepers who have been involved in stocking plastic bags, plastic glass, plates will be fined.
