The survey released Monday under the title "Violence in the family and the immediate social environment" was commissioned by the ministry of family affairs, Xinhua reported.

The study interviewed a total of 2,334 Austrian people aged 16 to 60. According to the results, over 74 percent of women said they felt sexually harassed and 30 percent said they have been sexually harassed at work.

Around seven percent said they have once been forced to have sex, while nine percent women have experienced "unaccomplished" sexual offences. One quarter was touched intimately against their will.

More than three quarters of the surveyed men said they were victims of psychological violence and 60 percent of physical violence. The study also said men were victims of violence in public places or at work while women were more often victims of violence within the home.
