Addressing a series of meetings in Uttar Pradesh’s Balrampur district, about 250 kilometers from here, as part of his  ongoing mass contact programme, Rahul blamed the non-Congress regimes for all the ills afflicting the state and exhorted the people to bring the Congress back to power.

Corrupt

“The non-Congress governments have cheated the people of the state...they have done nothing for the development of the state,” he said.

The Congress leader referred to the bad condition of roads, acute power shortage in the state and said that roads were built only when the chief minister planned to tour the area.

He also alleged that during Mulayam Singh Yadav's regime, the ‘goondas’ used to run the police stations.

Rahul once again sought to corner the Mayawati government over alleged misuse of MNREGS funds and said that the scheme meant for the poor had actually benefitted the contractors and BSP ministers. He also accused the BSP and SP of trying to create hurdles in the way of the Land Acquisition Bill.
