Body suspected to be of missing ship crew washed ashore

The body, which is in a highly decomposed state, has not yet been identified, Lakshadweep SP, Ajay Kumar said.

Sub Divisional officer of Amini, M J Kunhikoya said since Akhthar was missing from near Amini since Nov 27, it is suspected that the body was of one of the 6 member crew.

The vessel was on its way to the islands from Mangalore and due to bad weather conditions, it could not anchor at Amini and was in the outer sea when it went missing.
Coastguard vessels have been conducting searches in the area and Navy Dornier aircraft had also undertaken sorties.

The administration has asked coast guard to intensify the search for the remaining crew.

The help from fishermen are also being taken in the search operations, police said.

Meanwhile, a boat 'Dul Dul' with 10 persons, which had also gone missing was found in Valipani near amini this morning, police said.
