Rajasthan Cong to use orators to polish image

Last Updated 30 November 2011, 17:56 IST

“The state Congress has decided to revamp the image of the party which has taken a battering in public due to the local and national events that have snowballed into major controversies,” said a party leader.

The state unit of the Congress has floated a plan to prepare an army of good orators who can take the government's good deeds to the people and bring the disenchanted people back into the party fold. Four-hundred workers will be shortlisted by the Congress from across the state and groomed into effective speakers, according to a party official.

“They would be trained in a two-day workshop in Jaipur in the second week of December,” a party official said. After training, the workers will be ‘catalysts of change.’  They will inform the people about the government policies and decisions over the next two years.

State party spokesperson Satendra Singh Raghav said the selection process is under way. “Selected workers will be trained to communicate with the people and the local media effectively,” he said.

The party intends to pick a few out of the trained workers and assign them the responsibility of being district spokespersons. “It is for the first time that the party state leadership has proposed to appoint district spokespersons. Till now it was at the discretion of the district Congress president,” a party office bearer said.
