According to party sources, the organisation is of the view that both Somanna and Sudhakar should resign on moral grounds. An informal discussion with Sangh Parivar leaders is also said to have been held in this regard.

Four-time legislator Somanna, who quit his Assembly seat to join the BJP, suffered defeat at the hands of green horn Priya Krishna in the Govindrajnagar bypolls. Sources said there is a general feeling in the party that it would not be right to allow Somanna to continue as minister after the debacle.

The BJP top brass is said to be of the opinion Sudhakar too need to be kept out of the Cabinet following the CBI filing a charge sheet in a special court on his alleged involvement in a house site loan fraud.

Several precedents
There have been several precedents when ministers have resigned on their own.
For instance, the then minister R D Kittur in the Devaraj Urs Cabinet resigned because a woman, Sumitra Desai, could not be traced after she left his official residence. C M Ibrahim, in the Gundu Rao Cabinet had to resign as minister because he got a Rolex watch as gift from someone.
