District Magistrate V Ponnuraj had clamped ban orders after 8 pm for three days from Thursday, after six persons were stabbed in four days.

While six persons were stabbed (four on Wednesday alone) in the district by motorbike-borne duo, the first victim was stabbed by four persons in Mulki on Monday night. Out of the 7 incidents, 5 were reported in City and one each in Mulki and Bajpe police station limits.

In Friday’s incident, Ibrahim (30), owner of a shop at Central market, was getting ready to go home after closing the shop, when a motorbike-bornee duo arrived at the spot, stabbed at his stomach and back and fled the scene.

Confirming the same, SP A Subramanyeshwara Rao told Deccan Herald that the police were trying to ascertain whether all the incidents were done by the same duo.
“We are yet to ascertain whether Ibrahim had any personal rivalry as the duo were said to be waiting for Ibrahim at the spot,” he said and added that police have intensified checking of all two-wheelers in City. As the ban orders are in force, the City is wearing a deserted look by 8.30 pm since Thursday night.

Preventive custody
Meanwhile, the police have taken 61 persons into preventive custody to avoid any untoward incident in the City. Out of the 61 persons, 37 hail from City and 25 from rural areas.

IGP (Western Range) Gopal B Hosur termed the incidents as a conspiracy to disturb peace in the district by some vested interests.
