Music from hits of yester years, fright wigs, large bandanas and free beer were the themes for the evening at Fuga on Friday night.
When one runs out of ideas and themes, there is always the fail-safe Bollywood way to go. After all who can resist being dressed up in funny wigs in a makeshift dressing room with flashbulbs exploding in your face the instant you step through the dark curtains and step gingerly onto the multi-levelled glass floor to be greeted with a tidal wave of ear splitting Hindi music from the 80s.
 With rain playing the spoilsport and the usual traffic snarls to negotiate, Bangalore’s happening party people still rocked out at this hotspot to the machination of DJ Nasha and DJ Hussein. Of course, the strict no-dancing policy tends to put a big crimp in peoples’ party plans. One has the music, the ambience, the friends and the dancing shoes but no dancing. “It’s like going to a large buffet and being told not to eat. Man, this city is simply nuts,’’ said one irate guest who had to be content to tap his feet and sway to the beat without appearing to actually commit the cardinal sin of dancing. “Poor DJs, their job has become somewhat redundant and frustrating, having to churn out all this happening music and yet have no one to dance to it,” said Suman, a techie who was all togged out in an orange fright wig with bandaned girlfriend in tow. The two had to be content with sitting on a sofa with a couple of beers while the crowd slowly straggled in and pretended to have a rocking time.
Well, until the powers that be rethink their strategy, Bangalore’s not so happening night life will just have to gamely struggle on and make do with a lot of imagination, good humour and very little else.
