<p>Police arrested a few of the agitators when they broke the flower pots in front of the vice-chancellor’s office. <br /><br />The strike was triggered by the suicide attempt of one of their colleagues, Prakash Chalawadi, a second division assistant, who consumed poison on Monday, unable to bear the financial hardships due to non-payment of salary. <br /><br />The agitators said, nearly 150 employees were paid a paltry sum of Rs 2,000 per month and were denied the Government scales since 2003. They said, it was when G V Sugur was the registrar that they were made the victims of the feud between him and the then V-C Saeeda Akthar and were denied the scales they were entitled for. From then onwards, they were paid a meagre salary of Rs 2,000 per month.<br /><br />V-C Geeta Bali assured them that she would take up the matter with the Government.</p>
