Last Updated 27 December 2011, 13:10 IST

Government’s decision to close or merge Kannada medium schools will increase the number of illiterates, said H V Vasu of Karnataka Janashakthi Sangha at a seminar organised by the Dalit Sangharsh Samithi in Chikkaballapur on Tuesday.

“This move of government will also affect teachers as many will lose job and leave many unemployed. This is a blow to the education system,” he added.

He condemned that the government is shunning the responsibility of providing basic infrastructure and facilities to government schools.

“The government is bent on closing schools than finding out why students are choosing private schools over government schools”, he said further.

“ The government’s decision has helped the growth and development of private schools. Negligence towards education department and failure to implement the plans properly is the main reason for present condition of government schools”, he said.

Speaking on the occasion,  Government Education University Principal, Kodirangappa, urged the government to implement programmes like giving free education seriously.

Dalit Sangharsha Samithi Convener K C Rajakanth, leaders N Venkatesh, C G Gangappa, M Narayanaswamy, H Srinivas, B V Anand, C M Munaiah and others were present on the occasion.
