Experts visit Upper Bhadra Project region in Tarikere

The Upper Bhadra Project Action Committee was organising protests demanding comprehensive change in the project for the past several years. Action Committee convener T V Shivashankarappa said that a Study Committee was set up based on Action Committee’s demand. However, the Study Committee team has arrived in Tarikere without informing the local farmers and the Action Committee, he charged.

Responding to the charges, Prof D M Desai said that the Study Committee has the responsibility to accomplish the job entrusted by the government. A report will be submitted keeping in mind all the problems of the loccal people, he assured.   “Since I have little time, I will not be able to meet all farmers and Action Committee members individually. However, I will meet leaders and discuss the issues,” Desai said and assured that there is no need of being apprehensive about the study. “Let the Committee complete the study. All genuine problems of the people will be identified and a report will be submitted to the government,” he assured.

Upper Bhadra Project Executive Engineer Cheluvaraj said that a meeting of farmers and people’s representatives will be conveneed to discuss the issue on Wednesday at 10.30 am.

MLA D S Suresh, Project Superintendent Engineer Shivakumar, DySP Mallikarjun, Study Committee experts Prof M Shekhar, Prof M S Mohan Kumar, Dr Y Lingaraj, Shrikantamurthy and Action Committee members were present.
