'Influenced, yet he remained distinct'

Stating that Kuvempu retained his identity despite being heavily influenced by different ideologies, writer C P Krishna Kumar said researchers should work to unravel the treasures of Kuvempu’s literary works.

He was speaking at 107th birth anniversary celebrations of Kuvempu organised at Kuvempu Institute of Kannada Studies at Manasagangotri here on Thursday.

“Kuvempu often said ‘instead of carrying out research on my poems and texts, concentrate on speaking about scientific way of life and quash blind beliefs. This is better than quoting my works’,” recollected CPK.

However, Kuvempu was confident that he was influenced by Tolstoy, yet was distinctly apart from the famed writer. Though contradictions are aplenty when you look at his works, harmony of ideologies and their intertwining with each other in integration are the core to his works, he added.

Three books — ‘Sri Ramayana Darshanam’, ‘Three more plays of Kuvempu’, ‘Unfetter Your Minds and other essays’ — were released.
