Come January and railway passengers in the national capital would not have to dial the railway enquiry number endlessly to enquire about the status of trains.

The Delhi Division of Northern Railways has decided to facilitate the passengers regarding arrival and departure of trains and the platform number through SMS.

“The users would now just have to send the 5-digit train number through SMS at a designated number. The system will automatically generate the reply and send the return message with the updates,” said YS Rajput, Senior PRO, Delhi Division.

The facility will be available from January 1. The Delhi Divison also provides information about the status of trains and platform numbers on Facebook.

The Facebook page ‘Delhi Division Northern Railway’ has the updates of trains running from four major stations - New Delhi, Old Delhi, Nizamuddin and Anand Vihar.

Several trains were running late on Thursday due to fog. While New Delhi-Bhubaneshwar Rajdhani was running late by over 13 hours and was expected to leave at 5.30 am on Friday, West Bengal Sampark Kranti Express was also running late by 12 hours and was expected to leave at 6.10 am on Friday.

Atleast 15 other trains were running late by 5-10 hours.
