<p>Residents from surrounding areas, environment support groups and students from the Indian Institute of Science participated in the vigil organised by the Rotary Club of Yelahanka.<br /><br />Local residents expressed concern about the depleting green cover and demanded a comprehensive environmental impact assessment before the commencement of any work. <br />Dr Sujatha, a resident said “This is the last green patch of land in this area. The construction of this road could have serious repercussions on the ground water reserves in surrounding areas.” <br /><br />Residents also said that the construction of the road was a violation of the Town and Country Planning Act and were planning to file a public interest litigation (PIL) against the government. C R Bharat, the President of the Rotary Club of Yelahanka and a resident of Vidyaranyapura said that the vigil was just a start. <br /><br />“We will file a PIL against the move at the Karnataka High Court. Further we are going to launch an e-petition where Bangaloreans from all over the city and the world can express their support for this cause.”<br /></p>
