Justice Kumar has been in the midst of a divisive debate over the declaration of assets by the judges of superior courts under the Right to Information (RTI) Act.

Earlier, Justice Kumar had publicly articulated that the judges of the Supreme Court and high courts should volunteer to declare their assets within the purview of the RTI Act.
This drew a sharp reaction from Chief Justice of India, K G Balakrishnan who called him ‘publicity crazy.’
