The New Year has brought new hopes and aspirations for the students of Seshadripuram College in the form of job offers.

The placement process began in January and the companies have started visiting the campus everyday. Societe Generale, Wipro, Infosys, Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank, JP Morgan are some of the companies which will be hiring the students this time around and ten companies have visited the campus so far.

The college is focussing on quality more than quantity, informs Anuradha Roy, the placement officer and the head of the department of English. “Our aim is to facilitate students with appropriate jobs.

The placement has just begun and we have been getting a good response from the companies. We have given extensive training in communication skills, aptitude test, group discussion and interviews to students. Compared to last year, the response has been better this year and many major companies have shown an interest to hire students,” she informs.

She adds that the placement cell also provides career guidance to the students for other opportunities like government jobs and higher studies.

Even the students are all set to face the companies confidently. Vivek B Shah, a final year B Com student, feels that the placement training held in the college was quite helpful. “I had attended a training for placement, which generally helps in the all-round development of one’s personality. The class was conducted for 60 hours and prepared us to face the industry,” he shares.

Vivek, who attended the placement sessions of three companies, adds that his seniors have been of great help. “My senior friends who are placed in different companies have helped me with their valuable suggestions. They provide background information about the companies. They have also given a set of probable questions which is useful during interviews,” he feels.

Rakshita, a B Sc student, too agrees that her senior friends helped her in preparing for the campus interviews. “As they are experienced, they have a clear picture of the job market. They guided me right from preparing for the placement to facing the interviews. Even our placement co-ordinators are very co-operative and encouraging. They are always there to help us and clear our doubts,” she opines.

Chandana, a B Com student, wants to get into Goldman Sachs as it’s her dream company. She has attended the interviews of three companies so far, but her dream is to work for Goldman Sachs. “I wish to get into that company as there is a big scope for growth there,” she reasons.

She has brushed up her skills in aptitude and communication. “I have referred to the Maths textbooks of first to tenth standards for aptitude test. I read newspapers everyday which help me improve my vocabulary and attend group discussions confidently,” she informs.
