HC seeks information on reservation for ZP seats

The elections to Zilla Panchayats are scheduled to be held from May 14 to 25.

Several Panchayats in the State have filed applications in the High Court alleging that rotation policy has not been followed allotted while determining seats.

The reservation policy followed for Chickamagalur, Shimoga, Bangalore and Uttara Kannada Zilla Panchayat seats have been questioned, after a Government Order was issued on May 4 allocating the seats to particular categories.

According to the reservation policy allocation of seats have to be rotated every election. and the petitioners have alleged violation of the policy in some districts. The hearing has been adjourned.

Conditional bail granted

High Court has granted conditional bail to T Prakash Reddy, a Congress candidate for Lok Sabha elections from Rapthadu in Andhra Pradesh in an attempt to murder case.

Reddy and ten associates are accused attacking and throwing acid on Krishnamurthy, a real estate promoter, in 1997. Reddy, who was refused bail by a Fast Track Court had moved the High Court.

He was granted bail in 2001 but failed to appear before another court to which the case was transferred.

The High Court had therefore ordered his arrest and seizure of property in 2004. The Fast Track Court had dismissed an appeal challenging this order.

Justice Keshavanarayan granted the conditional bail directing Reddy to furnish a bond for Rs one lakh and co-operate with the investigation.
