Limericks should expand its preferences from only comedy and romance to the other seven rasas, said Dr K Chidananda Gowda.

He was speaking chairing the Fifth District Limericks Fest organised by the District Limericks Parishat in the City on Saturday.

“Limericks literally means expressing big things in a small format,” he said.

“The form, however, is often mistaken to be a medium to articulate light feelings of entertainment. It is therefore necessary to work seriously to use it to express serious truths,” Chidananda Gowda added.

‘Stories too’
Limericks should also expand beyond poetry and move ahead to short stories. More and more people should be attracted to the writing form, he added.

D R Shivakumara Gowda, chairman of the Karunashri Indira Gandhi Charitable Trust, inaugurated the fest and promised support to more literary and cultural programmes in the City.

Book release
Dr S Muralidhar, Head of the Commerce Department at the Government College for Boys released 'Selected Poems' of Dr Chidananda Gowda.

J G Nagaraj, professor at the Government Pre-university College, released 'Selected Limericks' by Venugopal Rao.

Dr M G R Urs, state coordinator of the Parishat central committee, released the Kaustubha calendar.

Parishat executive chairman Aravinda Katti also spoke on the occasion. Dr K M J Mouni welcomed the gathering. Aparna Katti offered prayers and a team of Chinmaya students sang the state song.
