<p>Limericks should expand its preferences from only comedy and romance to the other seven rasas, said Dr K Chidananda Gowda.<br /><br /></p>.<p>He was speaking chairing the Fifth District Limericks Fest organised by the District Limericks Parishat in the City on Saturday. <br /><br />“Limericks literally means expressing big things in a small format,” he said. <br /><br />“The form, however, is often mistaken to be a medium to articulate light feelings of entertainment. It is therefore necessary to work seriously to use it to express serious truths,” Chidananda Gowda added. <br /><br />‘Stories too’<br />Limericks should also expand beyond poetry and move ahead to short stories. More and more people should be attracted to the writing form, he added. <br /><br />D R Shivakumara Gowda, chairman of the Karunashri Indira Gandhi Charitable Trust, inaugurated the fest and promised support to more literary and cultural programmes in the City.<br /><br />Book release<br />Dr S Muralidhar, Head of the Commerce Department at the Government College for Boys released 'Selected Poems' of Dr Chidananda Gowda.<br /><br />J G Nagaraj, professor at the Government Pre-university College, released 'Selected Limericks' by Venugopal Rao.<br /><br />Dr M G R Urs, state coordinator of the Parishat central committee, released the Kaustubha calendar.<br /><br />Parishat executive chairman Aravinda Katti also spoke on the occasion. Dr K M J Mouni welcomed the gathering. Aparna Katti offered prayers and a team of Chinmaya students sang the state song.</p>
