More buds in MCD nurseries

The number of students in nursery classes of MCD schools has witnessed an increase of over 4,000, thereby increasing the total to 49,419 this year, said the chairman of Education Committee on Saturday, adding that the MCD schools do not lag behind private schools and parents should opt for them.

According to Mahinder Nagpal, chairman of Education Committee, out of the total, the number of boys is 22,259 while there are 27,160 girls. In municipal primary schools, the number of students has increased over 14,000.

The total number of schools have also increased to 1,740. The number of students at present is 9,42,135 while it was 9,28,406 last year.  The MCD is going to distribute free tablet computers this year but the project worth Rs 45 crore will be free of cost for its students of Class IV.

Nagpal said, “All MCD schools provide free of cost facilities like mid-day meals, time to time upgrade of school infrastructure, free books and copies, school bags, uniforms, shoes and water bottle. The students belonging to SC, ST and minorities are also given scholarships,” he said.
