All-party meet called on MCD polls

The Delhi State Election Commission has convened a meeting of all the national parties to decide upon the issue of reservation of seats for women and dates for the forthcoming MCD elections in the national capital.

According to the Election Commission, four representatives each from Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party, Bahujan Samaj Party, Communist Party of India and Communist Party of India (Marxist) have been invited to hold discussion with the team of officials from the commission, including Chief Election Commissioner (Delhi) Rakesh Mehta, on January 18.

After Lt Governor Tejendra Khanna gave his approval to the MCD trifurcation notification on January 13, the decks have been cleared to hold the MCD elections as per the new amendments like 50 per cent reservation for women and trifurcation of existing municipal corporation into three different new municipalities.
