Underworld Awakening 3D

Werewolves and vampires fight on

English (A)
Cast: Kate Beckinsale,
India Eisley, Michael Ealy, Stephen Rea, Theo James
Directors: Mans Marlind and Bjorn Stein

The fourth installment of the Underworld franchise, Underworld Awakening continues the rivalry between werewolves and vampires.

Kate Beckinsale reprises her role as Selene, as she teams up with Eve (India Eisley), in her mission to end the war between humans against vampires and lycans.

The plot of Underworld Awakening is rather dumb. Selene finds herself in a cryogenic suspension, having been captured by humans, six months after the events that unfolded in Underworld: Evolution, the second film in the Underworld series.

Humans discover that immortal vampires and lycans (werewolves that take human form) do exist and decide (to keep the humans safe) that the best thing is to simply eradicate them. Selene succeeds in escaping the facility after 12 years and finds Eve, a vampire and lycan hybrid who too has escaped. Selene later saves Eve from Lycans and discovers a horrible truth.

As Selene, Kate easily beats other contemporaries (Angelina Jolie in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and Milla Jovovich as Alice in Resident Evil). Viewing the 3D version is quite a strain, thanks to the blue filter with its dark muted tones.

However, there is no denying that Underworld Awakening has tonnes of action and special effects to keep you engaged, which makes it the second best film in the franchise.

Watch Underworld Awakening only if you are an Underworld aficionado or an action buff.
