Change school times by two hours this winter: BJP

Last Updated 20 January 2012, 19:20 IST

In view of severe cold prevailing in the Capital, Delhi BJP unit president Vijender Gupta has asked the State government to change school timings.

Classes should begin two hours later that the usual time; the school closing time can remain unchanged. Gupta said children will be safe and may get some relief if opening time of schools is pushed forward by two hours.

“School buses and private vehicles that ferry students run the risk of accidents due to early morning fog. Accidents are happening every day in the Capital due to thick fog.” He said parents have complained that children are falling sick due to cold weather.

“The government should give priority to the safety of children, parents and teachers by extending the opening time of schools,” added Gupta.

Schools closed today
Keeping in view the extreme cold prevailing in the city, all MCD primary schools will remain closed on Saturday.

“All MCD primary schools will remain closed on Saturday due to extreme weather,” said Mahendra Nagpal, chairman of the education committee.

MCD schools had called winter vacation for the academic year 2011-2012 from December 26 to January 16. The original winter vacation was from December 25 to January 9, which was extended till January 13 and then January 16.
