Akanksha, the Commerce Students’ Association of Maharani Lakshmi Ammanni College for Women, celebrated ‘Envision -12’, the inter-collegiate commerce fest at the college premises recently.

Nearly 20 colleges from the City took part in the two-day fest to showcase their talent in various events. Students from Mount Carmel College, MES College, Surana College, BMS College, Seshadripuram College, Bishop Cotton Women’s Christian College, St Anne’s College, SSMRV College, Reva College, Garden City College and others competed in 10 events.

The theme for the fest was ‘Community Development’ with special focus on ‘Student Fraternity Contribution towards Children of Special Needs’. ‘Ad-O-Mania’, ‘Quiz Bowl’, ‘Best Manager’, ‘Investor’s Guide’, ‘Social Entrepreneur’, ‘Product Launch’, ‘Economist’, ‘E-Collage’, ‘Best Accountant’ and ‘Mock Stock’ were conducted with the topic same as the theme. Of these, the ‘Best Manager’ and ‘Quiz Bowl’ were a big hit with the participants.

‘Quiz Bowl’, which was held on the first day of the fest, turned out to be a crowd-pulling event as even the audience took part in it. “The event was broadly divided into two rounds — ‘Aptitude’ and ‘On Stage’. ‘On Stage’ was again divided into five rounds, wherein the audience were allowed to answer questions that were passed by the contestants. The final round was held for more than two hours entertaining everyone present over there,” informed Enakshi, the event
co-ordinator.

As many as 10 colleges participated in ‘E-Collage’, wherein the students were asked to make collage on the computer by using Photoshop and CorelDraw software on the topic, ‘New teaching initiative undertaken by the student fraternity for special children’.

‘Best Manager’, which had four rounds, was conducted to test organisational skills, strategic orientation, business ethics and social responsibility of aspiring managers. Most of the participants found it difficult to crack the aptitude round, whereas group discussion round was more interesting with active participation of each contestant.

Radhika and Prajna, first year B Com students of Mount Carmel College, who took part in the ‘Best Accountant’ event were quite confident about their victory. “This is for the first time we are taking part in the ‘Best Accountant’ competition. The questions were based on numerical skills and analytical ability. We had an enriching experience here and it will definitely boost our confident level,” they said.

In ‘Investor’s Guide’, the participants were given a practical scenario and were asked to come out with possible solutions which would benefit an investor to save his money.

“For the first time, we included a theme for the fest aiming at helping special children in our own way. We have raised a ‘Corpus Fund’ by collecting money from students and lecturers to help those kids.

Ten per cent of the amount collected for the fest will be added to this fund. As a first step, we bought paper bags, envelops, greeting cards and other materials, prepared by differently-abled children for the fest,” informed Meenakshi, one of the organisers.
