BJP legislators 'rescue' accused from station

Two BJP legislators on Wednesday barged into the Bagalkot Town police station, abused the police personnel and forcibly took away an accused, who was arrested.

Nominated BJP member of Bagalkot CMC, Raju Ballulmath was arrested in connection with a case of life threat to a person. Bagalkot legislator Veeranna Charanthimath and MLC Narayan Bandage barged into the police station and got the accused released.

Supporters of the legislators staged a dharna and demanded the suspension of Inspector Mahantesh Hospet.

The police also staged a token dharna in front of the police station over the legislators preventing them from discharging their duties.

Superintendent of Police Ishwarchandra Vidyasagar, who visited the spot, held talks with both the BJP protesters and the police.

The Superintendent of Police refused to comment on the incident and told the media persons that no such incident had taken place, although the media and the public were witness to the episode.
He refused to give details of the incident and attempted to hush it up.

The police themselved recorded the incident of the legislators barging into the police station and taking the accused away, on a mobile phone, but no complaint was registered.
