Udupi district unit of CPI (M) will be organising a State-level protest rally to condemn the biased treatment towards lower class people during mass feeding in Sri Krishna temple, on January 26.

Speaking to media persons, Udupi district unit of CPI (M) Secretary K Shankar alleged that the lower class communities are served food in a separate row during mass feeding. The biased treatment while feeding upholds the prevalence of caste system besides treating humans inferior against each other.

He strongly condemned distributing ‘prasadam’ based on the castes and termed it as inhuman and is totally against the pledges assured in the Constitution that is right to equality. Devotees are served food in four separate rows based on their castes and status, he informed.

He said even in Dharmasthala, the devotees are served prasadam in a biased manner. They are made to sit in separate rows if they are not Brahmins.

Shankar demanded that all should be treated equal before God and there should not be any sort of substandard treatment towards devotees who come with the purpose of offering prayers. All these traditional beliefs and practices which reflect the prejudiced and corrupt systems practiced in the society needs stringent actions to be curtailed, he added.
