Last Updated 27 January 2012, 11:58 IST

Popular for its delicious sweets and spicy chaats, ‘Sri Krishna Bhavan Sweets’ has become a landmark in Sanjay Nagar. No other shop in the vicinity sees as mad a rush as this one.

The place has everything a foodie expects, from chaats, sweets, snacks and namkeens to juices and ice-creams.

Started by Suryanarayana and Narasimha in 2005, the place is known for its taste, quality and cleanliness. “We have sweet shops in Srirampura and Mathikere, both are doing well. Encouraged by the success of those shops, I decided to open a new one here. Luckily, within a short span of time, we have built a strong customer base,” informs Suryanarayana.

One can find a great variety in all the sections. There are over 80 varieties available in the sweet section, which include Mysore pak,  jalebi, jamun, dry jamun, kaju katli, kaju roll, kaju cake, badam barfi, anjeer barfi, mothi halwa, carrot halwa, basundi and rasmalai. The chaat section has a huge variety, apart from samosas, veg rolls, cutlets and sandwiches. Fresh juice and milkshakes, khara mixtures and other bakery products have many takers too.

Mysore pak and cashew nut products have great demand, informs Suryanarayana. “We purchase fresh cashew nuts directly from the growers in our hometown Mangalore. Hence, we can sell quality products at a reasonable price,” he reasons.

More than sweets, it’s the spicy chaats that bring a huge crowd here. Masala puri and pani puri, are quite popular and the shop witnesses a brisk business during evening hours. It is crowded during the weekends also. B C Hegde, a retired bank employee, is a regular customer and comes here everyday. “I have been visiting this place since its inception and I have noticed that the quality has remained the same till date. All the items sold here are fresh. Juices and milkshakes are my favourites and I particularly like butter fruit and kharbuja (musk melon) juices,” he
includes.

According to Jagadeep, a student of M S Ramaiah Institute of Management Studies, it’s the irresistible taste and the reasonable prices that make him visit the place. “I have been relishing the various items here for a year now. I take sweets home on special occasions, which stay fresh for three days. Chaats are my favourite, especially masala puri and sev puri. Many of my friends too come here for evening snacks,” he says.

The shop opens at 7.30 am and closes at 10.30 pm on all days. The eatery is located at 105, AECS Layout, 2nd Stage, 5th Main Road, Sanjay Nagar. For details, call 32974398.
