Homemaker strangled to death

A woman was found dead at her home in Kanakadasa Nagar in the city on Friday. The victim has been identified as Roopa (22), wife of Krishnaiah, a deed writer.

Roopa was found strangled to death, with both her hands and legs and also neck tied with a rope.

Quoting her husband, Kuvempunagar police said Roopa had called her husband from her cellphone about an LIC agent. He (Krishnaiah) took her to task for letting inside a stranger. Curious, he later rushed home only to find his wife dead.

Krishnaiah aged about 52 had lost his first wife owing to brain tumour. He has a child from the first wife. He married Roopa four years ago and also has a child.

Police suspect that the incident may have occurred between 11 am and 12 noon.

However, all the articles in the house are intact, said the investigators ruling out the possibilities of murder for gain.

A case has been registered and investigations are on.

Kidnap convict gets four year jail

Judge of second additional district and sessions court S Y Erannavar on Friday sentenced a man convicted of kidnap and illegal confinement to four years imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs six thousand.

N Mahadevaiah of H D Kote had allegedly kidnapped a woman from Vontikoppal in Mysore on March 2010. He had taken the woman to H D Kote on the pretext of helping her.

However, he threatened her of life demanding sexual favour. But the woman succeeded in freeing self and had lodged a complaint with V V Puram police here.

The police had arrested Mahadevaiah and submitted a chargesheet to the court. The judge awarded one year imprisonment and Rs one thousand fine for incarcerating the victim and three years jail and Rs 5,000 fine for kidnap, said a release from public prosecutor K Govindaraju.
