The naxal problem has reduced drastically in the State and when compared with Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Chattisgarh, the naxal problem is negligible in Karnataka, said Home Minister R Ashoka.

Speaking to mediapersons on the sidelines of inauguration of police commissionerate building here on Saturday, Ashoka said that there are hardly 10 to 15 naxals in the State who operate in parts of Udupi and Chikmagalur district.

“Most of them are not local people, but hired from other regions,” he said and appealed to the naxals to surrender their weapons and come to the mainstream.

Stating that the combing operations are on in naxal infested areas, he said the police will not hesitate to take any action, if they create problems.

He also said that the State has a naxal package under which they will be rehabilitated.
