Tour operators' meet in City

Briefing newspersons in this connection, Principal Secretary, Tourism Department, K Jyotiramalingam, said that between 600 and 800 tour operators from different parts of the country will be taking part in the event. The meet will be organised around the theme ‘Tourism - Managing the Downturn.’

The beauty of the State’s tourist spots will be showcased to the operators through business and visit sessions, he said. “They will ensure the inflow of tourists to the State and tourism and related businesses are bound to pick up by the next financial year,” the Principal Secretary added. Director of Karnataka State Tourism Department, Viswanath Reddy said that the economic recession and the swine flu fear have hit the tourism segment. “The peak season for tourism generally begins from September and so we are now trying to revive it,” he added. The City was playing host to an IATA conference after 14 years, he said.
