Last Updated 31 January 2012, 18:35 IST

State BJP working committee member Sunil Subramani said, ''Assembly Speaker K G Bopaiah has judiciously used his power to disqualify MLAs. He has not committed any crime and there is no need for him to tender resignation.''

Speaking to presspersons, he said even the High Court had earlier upheld the decision of the Speaker. It is only now that the Supreme Court has questioned his decision to disqualify the MLAs. Sunil said, “Bopaiah is functioning well. Congress leaders do not have any job, so they are demanding the resignation of the Speaker.”

“If opposition leader Siddaramaiah is interested in playing ‘kusthi’, we will invite him to take part in Dasara sports meet in Madikeri,” he added.

District BJP’s Rathnakar Shetty said the oppostion leaders have not read the Supreme Court’s order. The order has not said that the decision is unconstitutional. It has just stated that it was a hasty decision.
