PWD on a road work spree

Filling potholes along 374 km of road taken up at a cost of Rs 60 lakh
 

The contours of the City may undergo a drastic makeover by April this year, with the Public Works Department lining up more road development projects.

Close on the heels of launching the work on widening of MB Road, projects to develop several arterial roads in Kolar too has been taken up. And the outlay for a majority of these projects is only Rs one crore.

The work on the road from Mecce Circle to Bangarpet Circle has already been completed the stretch has now become a delight for motorists. Development of the stretch between Domelight Circle and Clock Tower has also been taken up.

The development of pothole-ridden road in front of the Zilla Panchayat office, also known as Devanahalli-Kempapura Road has also been taken up. The 0.95 km stretch is proposed to be developed at a cost of Rs one crore. The work is expected to commence from Friday and likely to be completed by February end, said M Muniswamy, Assistant Executive Engineer of PWD.

Similarly, the stretch between the official residence of Superintendent of Police and Kodikannur tank bund will also be developed. The 1.6-km stretch of the road, designated as Bangarpet-Bagepalli road by the department in two phases. The first phase is from the SP’s house to the tank bund and the second phase is from the tank bund to Murandahalli Cross at an estimated cost of Rs one crore. The work is expected to be complete by March end.

The officials from the Quality Control division of the department will inspect the project at regular intervals. The contractors too had been asked to ensure quality, Muniswamy told Deccan Herald.

The engineer said the task of filling potholes in 374 km road passing through the district at a cost of Rs 60 lakh has also been set in motion, he added.

This is just the beginning. The roads will be in better condition from April. If the people co-operate and the department concerned approves and releases grants in time, the department is all set to carry out development projects. All the main roads will be converted as double roads, street lights will be placed in between the roads, barricades and high mast lights in the circles are also in the list.

Work of road development of 1.55 km from Bangarpet Circle to Clock Tower (State Highway 99) and two drains is in the process. 200 mt road from Doomlight Circle to Kathari Gangamma Temple will be relaid. The road from Tekal Cross to Clock Tower will be asphalted.
