Last Updated 02 February 2012, 19:33 IST

Over 500 students from various Delhi University colleges participated in a mini-marathon on Thursday.

Organised by the students sports society of Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), the race around the campus was part of the Annual Festival of Youth Sports which began this year.

“SRCC is always been associated with education- from 100 per cent cut off to business and commerce fests, which are more informative than entertaining. The sports festival is an attempt to bring out a different aspect which have been neglected at the college. Head of Department of Physical Education, Kuljeet Kaur, gave us immense support in organising this event ,” said Prateek Rastogi, sports secretary and a third-year Economic (Hons) student.

Samod Kumar from SGTB Khalsa College stood out in men’s category and Aanchal Bhola from Lady Shri Ram (LSR) College was the first ranker among women.

The four-day festival, which started on Febraury 1, has football, hockey, badminton and basket ball.

“We have over 30 colleges participating in these sports and over 70 different teams. Sports teams from outside Delhi are also taking part in the events.

“Girls team from Panjab University and boys team from Jaipur Nivas Mittal Institute of Technology are taking part in table tennis and badminton,” said Rastogi.
