Reacting to the Union Urban Development Ministry's decision to curtail the 10 per cent allocation of funds for development projects, the leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly on Thursday said it is the result of lackadaisical approach of the government towards development matters.

“The chief minister always blames the central government for the delay in implementing the commonwealth games projects. However, the Delhi government is solely responsible for the delay in implementing the projects as proved by holding of funds by Union Urban Development Ministry,” said V K Malhotra adding that the Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit should know that the delay in implementing projects not only escalates project cost but also deprives the public from its benefits.

The Delhi Government  had demanded Rs 11, 563 lakh as the second installment for the nine projects under progress.

However, due to slow progress in implementing the projects, the Union Urban Development Ministry released only Rs 6, 938.13 lakh.

The remaining 10 per cent allocation would be released only after taking corrective measures in the remaining projects.

The nine projects of Delhi government which were reviewed by the Union Urban Development Ministry includes the fly-over constructed near Anand Vihar bus stand, railway  over-bridge near Nand Nagri, fly overs at Africa Avenue and Aruna Asaf Ali Road, fly overs near Vivekananda Marg, Nelson Mandela Marg, Apsara border fly over, Ring Road bye-pass project and UP link road project.
