Telugu (U/A)
Cast: Rajendra Prasad,
Sivaji, Sai Kumar, Anisha Singh, Siva Prasad
Direction: Sagar Chandra

Made on a shoe-string budget, Ayyare, only flatters to deceive with its topical theme on mindless idolisation of godmen and fake babas. Though Sagar Chandra deserves kudos for choosing a contentious theme, his tedious story-telling leaves much to be desired.

How an otherwise promising matrimonial life that garage-owning mechanic Venkatesam dreams of, turns topsy-turvy following Parakaya Baba’s bewildering turnaround that his wedding Anjali would not be in the fitness of things forms the fulcrum of Ayyare. Why does Baba ruin the happy augury for Venkatesam, his fiancee and the families? Will the mechanic get to marry the maiden of his life? These are posers Ayyare answers in the course of its lugubrious and lengthy run. Dull, dry and a drag on one’s nerves in the first half, post-interval the film picks momentum, panning out into passable time. While Rajendra Prasad turns out baba personified, Sivaji comes good as a carefree guy and Sai Kumar is as cool as a cop. Anisha Singh is so-so. Music, though, is best forgotten.
