Home minister silent on verdict

Last Updated 04 February 2012, 20:19 IST

Barely 10 minutes after the trial court  dismissed the petition against Union Home Minister P Chidambaram in the 2-G case, a relieved Chidambaram straightaway drove to the airport to take a flight out to Chennai on Saturday.

The minister who stayed put in his New Delhi residence 19, Safdarjung Road, and waited for the pronouncement of justice from Special CBI court Judge O P Saini, made his exit within  minutes. He did not answer  any queries from the media, nor did he step-out of his car, as hordes of scribes from television and print media, waited for hours at his  residence  to record his reaction to the important ruling.

The home minister reportedly stays at his residence all by himself without much  staff assistance and personally picks up all the calls made to his residence.  Chidambaram was scheduled to visit Tamil Nadu on Saturday. As long as he was in the national capital, Chidambaram offered no reaction to the ruling that went in his favour. The telecom minister Kapil Sibal, however,  quickly reacted saying the government expected a ruling like this.
