Lalitha Nayak Nagar, named after former minister B T Lalitha Nayak, situated on the outskirts of the city came into existence in 1986-87.

Even after 25 years, the layout does not have connecting roads. The layout, which is quite a distance from the city centre, is also far behind in developmental aspects. It is evident from the mud road that lacks streetlights.

District Lambani Tanda organisation leader Krishna Nayak said though the layout has a borewell and Cauvery water connection, there are no proper underground drainage facilities. Apart from canvassing for elections, no elected representative visit to this layout, he says.

The layout comes under ward number 34 of the CMC. Although there are 54 sites for those who belong to Lambani community, there only 28 houses with around 125 voters, he said.

Lakhs of rupees are being allotted for development of wards, but there is no sign of development in the layout. Works on laying of roads has begun and it has to be noted that Karnataka Tanda Abhivruddi Nigam has released funds for it. The works taken up by Nirmiti Kendra is incomplete. The works are of substandard quality, with the proportion of cement mixture not up to the standards, it is observed. Krishna Nayak said though it was brought to the notice of Nirmiti Kendra, as the works have been given on sub-contract to another party, they claim helplessness.

The contractors have neglected some roads and out of 358 mts long roads, only 70-80 mts stretch has been asphalted. They have just dumped gravel on some roads. A complaint in this regard to the deputy commissioner and president of Nirmiti Kendra has been submitted with a warning of staging a dharna if no steps were taken to rectify the problem.

Nirmiti Kendra president Suresh denied that sub-contract has been given. He said Nirmiti Kendra has taken up the works and assured to complete the works as soon as funds were released. Commenting on quality of works, he said stress has been laid to maintain quality.
