Sewage water that flows around valves of the new water tank at Noorani Mohalla in Bagepalli city pose a threat of contamination to its residents.

Due to this as many as ten wards are receiving contaminated water. Three are three valves beneath the newly-constructed water tank at Noorani Mohalla. Sewage water that flows in the midst of the valves, thus, pose a serious health risk to residents of wards 10, 12, 13, 14,15,18, 19, 20, 21,22 and 23.

Due to poor rains in the past the residents are forced to depend on the water tank for meeting their daily water needs. The situation is such that the people are forced to shell out and purchase water from owners of private water tanks.

As the valves are in the midst of flowing sewage water, it gets mixed up with drinking water. In addition to this a lot of water is wasted and the drainage is not desilted, thus, causing unbearable stench, said Abdul Munaf, a resident of Noorani Mohalla.

A Pump house was built at Santhe Maidan in the city and a water treatment plant was was also built to clean th water flowing from Chitravathi barrage.

But water cleaning factor, alam was not mixed into the water flowing from chitravathi barrage and the unpurified water was directly released to six tanks in the city.  People have been consuming this unhealthy water.

Despite lodging several complaints, the authorities concerned have turned a blind eye to the woes plaguing the residents of Noorani Mohalla, he added.

Officers concerned should at least make a weekly visit to the wards and address the woes, said Mohammed S Noorulla, a councillor from the 15 ward.
