Falak back on ventilator

Last Updated 05 February 2012, 18:57 IST

Falak was put on ventilator again. Doctors are waiting for her body’s response to the antibiotics administered on her.

“She was put on ventilator because she had a problem in breathing. Her condition is still critical and we are keeping our fingers crossed,” said Dr Deepak Aggarwal, associate professor, neurology, Jai Prakash Narayan Apex Trauma Centre, AIIMS.

“Right now the fluid in her brain is not circulating in the body which is creating pressure in the brain.

We have put a tube to drain the fluid. Once her condition improves we’ll do a surgery to divert the brain fluid to the abdomen,” said Dr Aggarwal. The blood tests and bio-chemical tests of the child are within the normal range.

Falak was brought to JPNATC in the third week of January. Doctors suspected she was suffering from ‘battered baby’ syndrome in which a person close to the baby inflicted physical injuries on her.
