A 12-year-old tribal girl was thrown out of a train by a man who allegedly tried to rape her, police said on Monday.

According to Korba district police, Ramdayal Kenvat, 45, who was known to the girl, threw her out after she resisted his attempt to sexually assault her. Kenvat is absconding. The girl, a Class 7 student, has been admitted to hospital. Police said Kenvat often visited her family in Bhaismuda village.

On Sunday, he convinced her family that he would take her to Kusmunda village to fetch a scholarship for her and would drop her back home. Then they boarded Chhattisgarh Express at Sarahbundia railway station.

When the train reached Korba, Kenvat took the girl to an empty coach and started abusing her. She raised an alarm and some passengers rushed in to investigate the matter.

“Just before the other passengers came, he pushed the girl off the train,” a police officer said. When police met the girl’s father, he told investigating officers that Kenvat informed them that the girl had run away without any reason. Police found out that several cases including theft and dacoity are pending against him.
