The Delhi BJP on Tuesday termed the state government’s decision to hike welfare allowances for students and construction workers as false promises.

“Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit should clarify on budget allocation and fix a time limit for the implementation of the scheme. The decision is a false promise by the government to attract voters before the MCD elections,” said Vijender Gupta, Delhi BJP Pradesh president.

The Cabinet on Monday decided to increase scholarship for the students belonging to SC, ST and minorities which would be an additional burden of Rs 25 crore on the government, he said.

The Chief Minister had made many such announcements before the 2008 Assembly election which are yet to be fulfilled, Gupta said.

“The government had promised to regularise unauthorised colonies and provide basic amenities, free houses for the poor, cleaning the Yamuna and providing sewerage connection to the villages,” said Gupta. These announcements have not been fulfilled even after four years, he added. The BJP Pradesh president dared the chief minister to dissolve the Assembly and hold fresh elections along with the MCD polls.

“If the chief minister has courage then she should announce elections for the Assembly along with the MCD. The results of the elections itself will show that now the people of the national capital cannot be misled by the Congress government and will not be influenced by false promises,” Gupta said.
