Brilliance on stage

While commemorating 23 glorious years of Limca Book of Records, its latest edition was launched recently in the City. This edition catalogues a special music section that acknowledges the extraordinary achievements of 10 Indian musicians as ‘People of the Year’.

Speaking during the launch, sitar maestro Ravi Shankar said, “The book will inspire many more people to take up music. Music runs in the veins of every individual, and it is the thread that binds us all together. I am humbled to have been chosen to felicitate these great musicians on behalf of the Limca Book of Records for their outstanding contribution to the world of music.”

The list of 10 renowned artistes awarded and appreciated by Limca Book of Records were Asha Bhosle, Shubha Mudgal, Teejan Bai, Dr Yesudas, Dr L Subramanium, Ustad Zakir Hussain, Pandit Jasraj, Gulzar, Jagjit Singh and Hari Prasad Chaurasia.

Teejan Bai was delighted to be present at the event and said in Hindi, “I am not educated like other people present here but I feel honoured to have received the award. I feel happy that I am appreciated by everyone. I was not able to understand what everyone was saying in English but I hope they all like me. I am sharing the stage with such illustrious and popular artistes, it will continue to motivate me and popularise pandavani.”

The event later had a captivating performance by Hariharan and few other new artistes with Coke Studio. The singer’s performance with Coke Studio was dedicated to the late singing sensation Pandit Bhimsen Joshi.

“I am rejoiced to be present here with so many great artistes, and these are rare occasions when artistes of various genres come together on the same stage,” said Hariharan.

 Other artistes who performed with Coke Studio were Cogen Gogoi who won hearts of everyone present in the hall. His Assamese song was a tribute to Bhupen Hazarika. There was another singer, Harshdeep Kaur who sang Sufi songs with her mesmerising.

 While sharing her experience, visitor Kanika Sharma said, “The entire event was full of music and lots of fun. I think I have been very lucky to see artistes like Asha Bhosle, Pandit Ravi Shankar and Teejan Bai perform live on stage. I have loved these artistes since my childhood. Listening to Coke Studio live was also once in a lifetime opportunity.”
