Police have arrested two men who used to enter marriage functions in the national capital region as invitees and workers, and target guests, specifically women and hosts, who carried huge amounts of cash, gifts and jewellery.

Madho Singh, 21, and Kappi Singh, 36, who hail from Madhya Pradesh, were involved in over 100 cases of theft, said Chhaya Sharma, deputy commissioner of police (south). The police have also recovered gold necklaces, earrings, bracelets, sunglasses, mobile phones, digital cameras, ladies purses, and other items from the accused.

“In most of the incidents, they used 8-10 year-old children to mix with guests at functions,” Sharma added.

The duo was arrested after the police collected details of several criminals with similar modus-operandi and activated secret informers to collect the information of the criminals involved in such incidents. “The details were then analysed minutely, and it came up that a gang headed by Madho might be involved,” Sharma added.

The police had received a tip off that Madho along with the members of his gang would assemble in a park near Savitri Nagar in Malviya Nagar on Friday to dispose off the stolen articles. “A trap was laid, and Madho and Kappi were arrested,” Sharma said.
