Central team visits areas affected by floods

The team comprised of Joint Secretary of Union Home Ministry Bhamathi, Rural Development Joint Director P Manoj Kumar, State Department of Highway Superintending Engineer C R Gangadhar, and Central Planning Commission Senior Research Officer R K Sharma. The team visited the rain affected areas of Siddhapur, Kollur, Haladi, Belave, Kundapur, Aroor, Puttur, Udyavar and Padukere and collected details from the residents.

In Haladi, residents said that the region has witnessed artificial flood due to the Varahi dam. The team also collected details on Asraya houses affected due to rain and wind.
However, the team did not visit Maravanthe, Salpuda, Chikkalli, Hadavu and Badakare where paddy worth lakhs of rupees have been inundated due to artificial flood caused by the Konkan railway line.

In the meantime, MLAs Haladi Srinivas Shetty and K Lakshminarayana were not aware of the team’s visit.  Deputy Commissioner P Hemalatha, Zilla Panchayat  Chief Executive Officer Prasanna Kumar and others were present.
